Our Philosophy

I Dream Public Charter School's philosophy is deeply rooted in our four core values.  Each core value is realized in our structures, traditions, and daily life as a learning community.

Equity lives in everything we do.
Everyone has voice and choice at I Dream PCS. We celebrate the unique differences and shared experiences of our community and actively seek opportunities to interrupt bias, prejudice, and stereotypes to ensure access to resources and success for all.

Relationships
It is through the informed nurturing of transformative relationships that I Dream PCS’s culture will reinforce positive learner behavior and set high expectations for learning.  Relationship development and building will be modeled and thoughtfully taught to guide both young learners and adult learners to form healthy trusting bonds that promote safety, learning, and discovery. Our shared beliefs:
  • Everyone has strengths and room to grow
  • Healthy relationships strengthen our community

Purposeful Work
I Dream PCS will always be learner-centered.  I Dream PCS learners understand that learning is a fluid and continuous process and that while they can showcase their learning at any moment in time, a culminating end-product is not always the goal. Learning is ongoing. Each learner at I Dream PCS will not only begin to develop a lifelong relationship with their learning but they will also learn that they intimately own both the learning process and the experience. Our shared beliefs:
  • Work should always matter
  • We love a challenge because that’s where we learn and grow

Collaboration
It is only with the local community, family, and peers that one can truly become their authentic selves and own their learning for a lifetime.  This is true identity-work, knowing and loving and growing your community. Throughout their tenure at I Dream PCS, learners will be a part of a vibrant community hub.  By creating a learning environment that also nurtures the community, young learners will see themselves more fully and see service and partnership as part of who they are becoming. Shared beliefs:
  • To go fast, go alone. To go far, go together (African proverb)
  • Collaboration is an exchange of energy

Our Key Pillars

Strength-Based Learning

Everyone deserves a special education. Each learner collaborates with their coach, mentor, and family to create a learning plan specially designed for them to achieve mastery of academic and social emotional standards, and to pursue their passions and dreams.

Social & Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning is just as important as academic learning at I Dream PCS learners bond in smaller Advisory Groups to learn who they are and what it means to be a community.

Dream Time & Dream Coaches

Learners have time each day exploring their interests, passions, and dreams through Dream Time for 3-10 year-olds. Community and family members act as Dream Collaborators and share their expertise and experiences.
